Native Wisdom From Mother Earth’s First Stewards
Dear A & H…I’ve learned so much from a site called The Sacred Science. Especially today. A small dose of native wisdom in my inbox. ت
They Did a Lot Right
I recently received a short email that really resonated with me.
Just a short list of life rules courtesy of indigenous people from the Americas, a little native wisdom from Mother Earth’s first stewards.
Because the words are so insightful, I couldn’t help but share them because, if Native Americans lived this way for thousands of years, as I’m sure other native peoples have done across the globe, it’s no wonder Nature’s beauty has been so well preserved for us today.
Well, mostly.
Kind of.
Sigh.
No doubt, the impact of the last several centuries has left its mark. But, leaving that topic for another day, if we could take even just a few of these tenets to heart…
Think of the possibilities.
A green, beautiful, and timeless world for all ages.
I like that thought. 🙂
Especially for those of us who love to run and lose ourselves in wild places.
10 Tribal Teachings To Live By
1) The Earth is our Mother, care for her.
2) Honor your ancestors through your actions.
3) Open your heart and soul to the Great Spirit.
4) All life is sacred; treat all beings with respect.
5) Take from the Earth what is needed and nothing more.
6) Put the good of all before your own interests.
7) Give constant thanks for each new day.
8) Speak the truth; but only of good in others.
9) Follow the rhythms of nature; rise and retire with the sun.
10) Enjoy life’s journey, but leave no tracks.
Reading this short list, it’s striking that these simple words, traveling through space and time, once belonged to people just like us. It just goes to show, no matter how far back we go in human history, basic needs don’t really change that much.
I just hope that We, with each passing day, connect more fully with their example as we fulfill our job as Earth’s current stewards.
Much love, O.M.
